Freemasonry is a male-only society, focused on three core principles: respect, truth and charity. Freemasonry is an enjoyable pastime for men to meet, make friends and acquaintances of varied interests and backgrounds and raise money for deserving causes.
The values of freemasonry are based on integrity, kindness, honesty, fairness and good citizenship. Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry. Masonic values are imparted by a series of ritual ‘dramas’ which are learned by heart and performed following ancient forms and using stonemasons’ customs and tools allegorically.
As with any endeavour, the satisfaction and enjoyment gained is proportionate to what you put in.
Many freemasons find learning and performing the rituals gives them the confidence to speak in front of others and they find the efforts required very rewarding. Others make their contribution by performing small parts of the ritual as they feel able, but all enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded individuals.
Freemasonry has been in existence for over 300 years, is global and boasts millions of members. One of the joys freemasonry is being able to visit or join many other lodges to meet others. “There are no strangers in freemasonry, only friends you haven’t yet met”.
Whether you are looking to take your first steps into Freemasonry or are already a Freemason, you will find our Lodge a very friendly, fun and welcoming Lodge. We take pride in our ritual but equally enjoy the moments it doesn’t quite go to plan. We enjoy our broad mix of members and that our ranks are regularly swelled by many visitors. And if you are looking for more ritual or advancement, you won’t find a better place.
Once you have become a Master Mason, there are other Masonic Orders that you could choose to join and progress your interest, including to John Carpenter Chapter.
Ask! Becoming a Freemason is not at all difficult, but it does require that its members believe in a Supreme Being. It is open to men (over 21) of all faiths and creeds. Freemasonry does not discriminate on the grounds of ethnicity, disability, age, politics, religion or sexual orientation.
